BOUGHT THE FARM on CDBaby!

The Band

MAW 2009

MAW is rowdy string band made up of Lawrence, KS women who like to play and sing songs about murder, mules, mining, and morphine. MAW took the stage for the first time in late 2006 and have playing shows around the Midwest ever since.  Set lists combine traditional and original songs that are sung and played crowded around a single condenser mic.

Our first CD, Advice for the Young and Foolish, was released in 2009 to enthuastic reviews locally as well as on Bluegrass Unlimited and in the Old Time Herald.  Our second CD, Pit of Desire, was released in 2012, and our newest CD, Bought the Farm, was released in the fall of 2015. Our music has been played on radio stations around the U.S. and in Europe.

MAW is

Kit Cole, fiddle, vocals;

Katie Conrad, mandolin, assorted stringed instruments, vocals;

Tracy Floreani, guitar, tenor guitar, vocals;

Julie Schwarting, upright bass, vocals;

Jeanie Wells, clawhammer banjo, guitar, vocals.

Hi Ladies!
Jeanie , nice meeting you at the KIOs table Appelgrass on Saturday. I messaged Phil Nusbaum of Bluegrass Review and told him about Maw and that he may be getting a disc from you soon. His show is heard in 32 states. I didn’t see Kansas listed on his site however.

Thanks, Mike for the mention of us to Bluegrass Review. We’ll definitely get our stuff off to him. KPR is the big public radio station in Kansas and has a long-running locally produced show, “Trail Mix.” That’s probably why they don’t pick up the syndicated show I’ll bet.. Still, I have heard that show when I’m traveling around and enjoy it. It’d be fun to get played on it!

It was great meeting you too — it was a fun festival and we had a great time playing up there. Hope we can get back up there again soon.

Jeanie

The Old Feed Mill; What a great show! Just a fabulous performance ladies. Keep it up. Definitely on our list that if you get close, we will come hear you play again. And as for the K-State quarterback, it is no joke. He can play the mandolin.
